Service Description

Our beginner novice class is a 6 week class. This class consists of learning the following skill sets: Attention Door Manners On Leash Heel & Sit Sit for Exam (approach by a stranger) On Leash Sit-stay at distance Recall to Sit Straight In Front Place Command The first week of class is NO DOGS. We will walk you through your homework for the week and address required training equipment for the week (collar, 15' long line and 6' leash). We recommend a standard chain collar for the majority of dogs but will discuss martingales and prong collars too. There are no harnesses or gentle leader/halti style equipment allowed. In addition, we will discuss training vs. management and how to manage your dog's behavior until training is reliably established. Your training exercises week 1 will be done both indoors and *outside*. The 2nd week of class will test your dog’s readiness to move into week 2, which is teaching heel and sit. This 6 week class requires dedication to the daily lessons so you can move comfortably through the program. At the end of the class we will run an AKC Beginner Novice obedience routine to assess your skills. We pride ourselves on a detailed training program giving you specific training exercises every day of every week of class. In order to see progress you must be committed to doing the work daily with your dog. Training sessions vary week to week but expect to spend approximately 45-75 minutes a day working your dog on leash. Some weeks this might be 2 sessions per day and other weeks you can break this down into a few sessions a day. Every week there is a readiness test which is pass/fail. We offer online help between weekly class via video feedback for those that submit video homework. All homework is uploaded and sent through You Tube. Our clients that participate in this have the best results. Every week has worksheets and demo videos to help you outside of class. You will be hard pressed to find a more comprehensive training system. Bottom line: Your commitment to the training determines the results you will get. There are no "quick fixes" to training your dog to become the best canine companion they can be for you and everyone you and your dog come in contact with in life. If you are not consistently handling/training your dog, you cannot expect them to behave consistently. **Tuition of $199 is non-refundable or transferable once booked.
